About Letz Design Landscape San Diego
Steve has always seen himself as "a steward of the land," having his hands in the dirt since early childhood. He raised vegetables, transplanted trees, created rock gardens at home and assisted friends and neighbors with their yards. Professionally, he has been active in his field for over 35 years. At an early age he knew he wanted to pursue studies in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture as he envisioned the role of a landscape designer as his life’s calling. With his degree in Landscape Architecture and multiple years of field experience, working at nurseries and his own backyard he carries vast experiences which serves him well in his current role. An early career path in design/sales and marketing of interior landscape services in the commercial sector provided a strong foundation for the integrity of service he provides today.
Relocating to San Diego in the late 1990's, Steve then collaborated with other Landscape Designers and then later founded Letz Design Landscape. A quick study, Steve has absorbed the climatic challenges of Southern California and the extreme array of new plant materials suited for our environment from the coast to the desert. With his wealth of experiences and resources, he enjoys the variety of challenges each new project represents and the opportunity to share his knowledge and imagination as well as his personal commitment to sustainable landscape design.
With the growing "green" movement, Steve feels it is everyone's responsibility to manage the health of our environment. "We can all make the difference with our choices, and it does begin at home. Whether using all native plants, drought tolerant Mediterranean style plantings, ornamental grasses mixed with succulents, adding a canopy of shade trees, placing edibles within our garden, permeable paving or reclaimed materials to create sustainable landscapes, landscape design will play a more important role to ensure the future of generations to come."
His true passion is to help others achieve their goals in their outdoor spaces. "I get the greatest sense of satisfaction once a design has been implemented and see the look of appreciation from a client's face. It's a great compliment to be contacted when someone sees a San Diego landscape design come into its own and asks me to come back to take photos. I'm so fortunate to be living my dream."
Steve's second passion can be seen below with examples of his artistic talents. Having mastered watercolor painting years ago, Steve currently enjoys creating botanical images with soft pastels. He feels that each landscape design is much like a composing a painting, using color, line, form, texture, shape, etc. to create a "living Masterpiece" for his clientele.
